It's not uncommon for our patients with thickened, dry and scaly feet to assume applying moisturizer will do the trick. In actuality, they are likely to be suffering from a fungal infection such as Athlete’s Foot. Athlete’s Foot is caused by fungus, an organism similar to a mold, that feeds on dead skin and nails. Left untreated, the organisms often move on to infect the nails - which can lead to thickening, discoloration and brittleness.
 
Fungal nails have been difficult for podiatrists to treat because most antifungal solutions cannot penetrate the nail. For patients, this has meant months or years of unpleasant and often uncomfortable nails. ClearaNail is a painless treatment that involves drilling very precise .4 millimeters holes into the plate of the infected nail, allowing treatments to directly access the whole nail bed. Once this 20-minute procedure is complete, patients will be sent home with Lamisil to be applied to the affected area daily. A visible improvement is typically seen in just 2-8 weeks.
