A Step Ahead
A bunion is a structural deformity resulting in a painful bump on the side of the forefoot near the great toe. Bunions form when the big toe rotates sideways towards the second toe. This rotation gradually changes the angle of the bones that make up the great toe joint. The deformation produces the characteristic bump, which is accompanied by soreness, inflammation, pain, and joint stiffness.
Hammertoes refers to a condition in which contractions of the toes are caused by a muscular imbalance in the foot where the tendons on the top of the foot are overpowered by the tendons on the bottom of the foot. The toes may become permanently bent in a flexed position. This frequently causes pain when wearing closed-toe shoes. The friction of the toes against the top of the show can cause a corn to develop.
Morton's Neuroma, most commonly found at the joint of your 3rd and 4th toes, is characterized by a painful growth of nerve tissue in the foot. When these bones compress together, due to tight shoes like high heels, high-impact activities, or foot deformities, the nerves between the joints become swollen, irritated, and inflamed.
In cases of Plantar Fasciitis and Achilles Tendonitis, Minimally Invasive Tendon Repair can remove necrotic scar tissue which could be causing considerable pain. Ultrasound imaging is used to identify and locate damaged scar tissue associated with the tendon. The procedure itself takes less than 10 minutes with no stitches, no scarring, and no downtime.
Ingrown toenails are a common condition where the nail grows into the skin of the toe or where the skin grows over the nail itself. This happens most often with the big toe but can happen with any toenail. While at-home treatments are a temporary fix, they can lead to infection and require surgery. Ingrown toenails can be permanently resolved with a simple podiatric procedure.
A plantar wart is a thickened and elevated growth of skin that appears on the bottom of the foot, usually on areas of direct pressure such as the ball or heel, or the toes. When the skin becomes infected by the human papillomavirus (HPV), plantar warts can develop. Plantar warts can be quite painful and produce difficulty with running, walking, and other activities.
